Juney Whank Falls

A nice small set of falls up a steep slope This site can be reached by 2 different methods. Our navigation app took us the more difficult way which was a rock/dirt road that went over the hill. I would suggest looking for the paved alternate route and taking that one. I highly recommend taking the well-paved part for everyone. Parking is limited in the parking lot that is at the trailhead for the falls. This location leads to several trails and at least 2 falls that are a short hike: Juney Whank and Tom Creek. Juney Whank is only about 0.2 miles but it is up a steep winding slope. There is a turnoff to the right that takes you down to a small bridge that puts you right in front of (and very close to) the falls. The falls are not really high but it is a nice view both looking up and down from the bridge. If you continue across the bridge up the trail, you will come to a divide in the trail. The one going down will take you to another set of falls (Tom Creek falls) and back to the parking area via a large and wide road. I would recommend this site for people interested in falls but a little expectation management on this. It is not a large set of falls and some visitors might be underwhelmed.

Buy a parking ticket before you come! You can buy the tickets online or at the visitors' center in town. This is a very beautiful park. It has parking, There are restrooms, and there are no animals allowed. That being said, there are multiple trails to choose from, I would say they are moderate as long as you don't have mobility issues. The waterfalls, stream, and forest gorgeous. There are lots of little quiet spots to tuck away and soak nature in.

Juney Whank Falls is divided into an upper and lower section. Both can be viewed from the footbridge which crosses Juney Whank Branch at the falls. Together they drop 90 feet from top to bottom. The trail to the waterfall is 0.8 miles roundtrip and is considered moderate in difficulty. Give yourself between and 1 to 2 hours round trip. We did see a snake kinda off the trail so as always...stay on the trail and lookout for them always. The stream and falls are said to be named after a Mr. Junaluska "Juney" Whank, who may be buried in the area. 👻⚰️ The scenery is spectacular in the waterfalls are awesome so it's well worth the effort!

It was a good hike. There are several trails, some short and some longer. The waterfalls were on the smaller side. There were kids and families playing and tubing in the river. In the morning it was very quiet. There is a $5 parking fee. There are numerous private picnic spots and good bathrooms. There are 3 separate falls, this is the shortest walk, but it is up hill. There is one on flat path.

Short hike up hill 3/10 of a mile one way. Took 10 minutes to get to. You can combine the trails and walk to the other 2 waterfalls. Should be a total of 2.2 miles if you walk to all 3. Lots of people tubing down the creek. Nice wide maintained trails to walk on. It's a pleasant hike. 5 dollar parking pass at the visitor center. No dogs allowed on trails, I saw a ranger turn a person around that got caught with a dog on the trail. There are signs everywhere saying no dogs.

Juney Whank Falls is a great choice to visit from the nearby Deep Creek Campground, but not worth going out of your way for from across the national park. The trail to access the falls is short but steep. The trail here is not wheel chair accessible. There is a small cut off trail to access the waterfall which has stairs. The falls themselves have a bridge right in front of them so you'll be very close to them.
